Hi, I’m Matt Sugar R.

It all started for me in the late 90s, witnessing a CJ Mackintosh set in Bordeaux ( I'm French ). It wasn't just a gig; it was a life-changing moment. By 1999, I had bought my first pair of decks and dived headfirst into a culture that would never let me go.

I was lucky enough to grow up in an era where clubs dared to be underground. I saw the masters at work: from the hypnotic House grooves of Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak to the raw, industrial soul of Detroit with Derrick May and Moodymann.

In the shadows of those sound systems, I soaked up the DNA of this music: the warmth of New York, the swing of Chicago, the warehouse energy of Manchester, and the magic of London’s 2-step Garage.

My Mission: Passing on the Heritage

I founded Sugar Tape Recordings in 2021 to give these influences a voice through my own productions. Today, I want to take it further: passing on my passion and love for these musical movements through my label and my shop.

This "Strictly DJ Wear" line is my way of sharing that heritage. These aren't just t-shirts; they are banners for the DJs, producers, and purists who, like me, want to wear their underground heart on their sleeve.

Here, we don't follow trends; we respect the history. We don't just sell apparel; we keep the culture vibrating.
